As you know, we have an obsession with the single origin spices from Diaspora Co. This nutmeg is no short of what we have come to love about Diaspora’s spices. Fully ripened on the tree, which maintains its maximum flavor, and then retained in its shell, this Nutmeg holds its potent flavor longer than any nutmeg you’ve ever tried. We use it in our cocktails more than any other medium. In our Dos Penínsulas, one of our favorites from Barcelona Wine Bar, we use it as a garnish along with Tequila, Lustau Palo Cortado Sherry, Lemon, and Agave.

About the farmer: This nutmeg is grown by Harish Manoj Kumar & Karthikeyan Palaniswamy on their family estate at the base of the Western Ghats. Not only has Manoj a regenerative farmer but has been 100% chemical free since 2012.

Diaspora Co., founded by Sana Javeri Kadri, is a spice brand that puts equitable, sustainable, and regenerative spices at the forefront of their identity. Sana, born and raised in Mumbai, created this brand to put “money, equity, and power” back in the hands of the farmers with aims to decolonize the traditional spice trading system. Diaspora Co. serves as the sole middle man in a system that typically requires many intermediaries which decreases the amount of money put into the hands of the farmers.
